Bead Weaving Techniques – Square Stitch

This stitch is very simple to learn, and can be used in a wide variety of ways. It is also a very strong stitch, as the thread passes through each bead multiple times. I have done a lot of custom design work in this stitch. One of the largest pieces that I designed in square stitch is the “Up, Up, and Away” necklace (below):

I have also designed a multitude of square stitch bracelets. Almost all of the ones shown in the pictures below are my original designs. The large autumn leaf bracelet is not my design – that pattern was featured in a beading magazine, and since I love Autumn, I made one for myself.

The lush “garden” bracelets shown below are stitched in square stitch, with added embellishment. These bracelets are time consuming to stitch, but worth the effort because they always get a lot of compliments. They are also fun to wear because they have so much fluid movement in the stylized garden design.
